Dear Parents and Student-Athletes,
With the closure of schools due to the COVID-19, the difficult decision has been made to cancel all District 8 Championships for the remainder of the school year.
Many academic program heads and educational leaders have been working diligently to create remote learning opportunities and resources for students to learn from home while we all adjust to the current physical distancing environment, and when students do return to the classroom, learning will remain the primary focus. With academics as the ultimate priority, the athletic programs typically offered will be cancelled for the remainder of the school year. A list of planned events and championships being cancelled has been provided below.
District 8 Championships:
- Track & Field Championships
- Boys & Girls Soccer Championships
- Boys and Girls Slo-Pitch Championships
- Ultimate Championship
Due to the open-endedness of school closures, the hope is that some level of physically active intramural programming can be introduced
We are touching base to let you know that classes will resume soon in some form of distance learning. Teachers have been reaching out over the past days to all of their students to find out if St. Benedict student(s) in your family have a means to stay connected through a device and/or internet access and to share this message about distance learning.
Students are reminded to please check any online learning environments (Google Classroom, D2L) and student/parent email for updates from their teachers. Please respond as soon as you are able to let them know you received their message and please share this message with other SBCSS students.
We are all working to adapt to the unprecedented conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are a student in need of support, please talk to an adult family member or trusted adult or connect with the resources below:

Dear Parents / Caregivers –
Since last we reached out to you, the global situation in relation to COVID-19 has continued to worsen and here at home we have seen unprecedented actions taken by our federal and provincial governments. As you know, schools are now closed and it would appear that this will stretch beyond the Easter …
The Waterloo Catholic District School Board has launched a new online campaign called #STEAMDays to assist parents in keeping their children engaged and learning as we work our way through the unprecedented COVID-19 shutdown.
Please view the attached video to learn more.
In times like these, it is vital for one and all to come together – and #STEAMDays will provide a convenient platform for parents and educators alike to share ideas, resources and fun ways to keep the learning process going.
As ideas are shared, we will gather some of them and post via our website: http://wwww.wcdsb.ca/STEAMDays
Any assistance your organization can provide in helping communicate #STEAMDays would be most appreciated.
