DOCTOR WHO CLUB: Coming March 22nd

As we conclude DAY OF THE DALEKS this week, some people might be noticing an upgrade to the original special effects.  The version of the episodes we’re watching are part of a special edition:  restored picture, and modern VFX added to enhance the experience.  A number of classic stories have received this treatment, but so far it’s DAY OF THE DALEKS that wins the prize for best overall experience.  Join us this week as we climax with a battle between the Daleks & UNIT…1972 with a dash of 21st century magic.

DOCTOR WHO CLUB: Coming March 8th

Two time lines & two world collide as we take a trip back to 1972 and visit with the dashing, patrician man-of-action that is Jon Pertwee’s 3rd Doctor.  Not only is DAY OF THE DALEKS his first on-screen meeting with his arch-enemies, it’s also the debut of the Daleks in colour, after the black-and-white years of the first two Doctors.  Join us this week as the Doctor, Jo & UNIT lead by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart literally fight against the future.

DOCTOR WHO CLUB: Coming March 1st

In THE DOCTOR DANCES, not only do we conclude the incredible story of gas mask zombies in WWII, we watch as John Barrowman’s Captain Jack Harkness becomes a part of the extended TARDIS family.  To say he was the most unique addition in the history of the TARDIS crew is something of an understatement, but it’s hard to imagine now the evolution of 21st century Doctor Who without his energy and non-conformity in those early years.  This week, we get to once again watch and enjoy as Mr. Barrowman’s irrepressible character worms his way into the hearts of the Doctor & Rose…and all of Doctor Who fandom.  As it happens, we also get to celebrate this moment with the March Prize Raffle, taking place at this week’s meeting.

DOCTOR WHO CLUB: Coming February 22nd

This is it:  the first true milestone of Doctor Who’s 21st century resurrection.  The first episode written by a future showrunner, the award-winning Steven Moffat.  The first episode to feature John Barrowman’s incomparable Captain Jack Harness.  The first episode to truly send terrified children running to hide behind the sofa — the soft cadence of “MOMMY” floating through the air — courtesy of a gas-mask-wearing zombie, in the shape of a 4 year old child.  This is THE EMPTY CHILD, where modern Doctor Who forever transformed.  Join us this week as we travel back to both 2005 and 1941 to relive this moment.
