Human Services: Introduction to Helping HHK4TQ
In this course, students will focus on developing an awareness of themselves as a helper. By learning the fundamentals of the helping process, a focus of beginning to understand how to approach clients’ needs, will develop. Through exploring and applying casework principles, skills in approaching and developing the professional relationship will develop. Students will also examine how their values and personal styles relate to effective helping. A review of theories of helping will assist students in developing a comprehensive view of approaching problem solving. Experience in public speaking and developing presentation skills will supplement didactic presentations. First Aid and CPR is included.

PSW Professional Practice HIC4TQ
This course introduces the student to the role, responsibilities and scope of practice, including workplace legislation and established policies and procedures relevant to the Personal Support Worker. The student is introduced to the roles of the health care team with a focus on inter-professional relationships. Current issues and trends in health care delivery and their impact on the Personal Support Worker will be discussed. The students will be introduced to the concept of individuality. In this course the student will cover basic oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on workplace application and be introduced to the concepts of communication and interpersonal skills essential to establishing and maintaining effective relationships with clients and family members. Problem solving and decision making skills will be presented and the use of written materials, including documentation and care planning will be discussed. The principles of teaching and learning, observation skills, and reporting to supervisors will be taught. Students will be provided with opportunities to practice these skills.

Child Development TOF4TQ
This ECE course introduces the chronological study of human development. It begins with prenatal influences and examines the age-stages of conception and infancy. The interactive nature of the physical, cognitive and psychosocial domains of the influence on human development will be emphasized. The major theories of development will be used to analyze different developmental events through the life span. A central theme of the course is the nature-nurture controversy.

Conestoga Dual Credits: Exploring the Construction Trades
Explore Construction Careers; trade areas may include

This three credit program provides students from all 5 high schools with an opportunity to explore Construction careers, while gaining safety training and basic skill development in specific skilled trades. Classes will be held at the Waterloo Campus of Conestoga College for 3 hours in the morning during first semester. A Conestoga College teacher will deliver the instruction in each area and a secondary school teacher will be assigned to support the students and the delivery of the program. Transportation to the college will be arranged through the School/College/Work Initiative. The cost of safety boots and safety glasses will be covered up to a maximum of $100 per student.
COURSE NOTE: Co-op is recommended for the following semester. Priority will be given to students interested in a college or apprenticeship pathway, and needing credits to graduate.

Using a variety of tools and visual exercises this course will introduce the student to organizing elements of two-dimensional design. Elements such as line, space, texture, value, colour, and spatial illusion will be explored to enable the student to employ visual awareness and dynamics in the field of two dimensional design. Critical evaluation skills will play a key part of individual class discussion and group critiques.

CAPP Dual Credit (College Apprenticeship Preparation & Co-op) CAPP 12
CAPP Dual Credit (College Apprenticeship Preparation & Co-op)
CAPP Dual Credit programs are for students focused on these careers:
• Automotive Service Technician
• Cook
• Carpentry
• Truck & Coach Technician.
• Welding
These programs operate in partnership with Conestoga College. Students are registered as an OYAP Participant at the start of the program and work towards completing pre-apprenticeship training for their chosen trade. Students will complete hours through Co-op that may apply towards their apprenticeship. Students will earn (2) secondary credits for successful completion of the college courses and (2) Co-op credits. A Grade 11 and/or 12 related Tech course is required as a prerequisite. Previous related work experience is desirable.
Students will also be interviewed for suitability towards admission into one of the following Level One apprenticeship programs:
• Automotive Service Technician
• Machinist/Tool and Die
• Brick and Stone
Interested students for these specialized level one programs will require previous work experience (either through coop or otherwise). In addition, students must have an employer willing to sponsor their apprenticeship.
These Dual Credit programs will run semester 2 for Grade 12 students who have successfully earned 26 credits towards graduation. All compulsory credits must be completed prior to the start of semester 2.

This course provides an understanding of components of fitness and its application to a student’s lifestyle. Students develop and implement a personal fitness program by applying basic concepts of fitness and demonstrating appropriate fitness skills. This course balances fitness theory with practical training and will vary as the course progresses.

This course provides an overview of the Canadian Criminal Justice System with a particular emphasis on the history, function, role and organization of Canadian law enforcement services; it examines the operation of the criminal justice system.
