St. Benedict CSS Relay for Life: A Triumph of Hope and Community Spirit
On May 26th, the St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School community came together for an unforgettable day of unity, compassion, and resilience at our annual Relay for Life event. This year, our efforts reached new heights - together, we raised an incredible $23,646 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society!

From the opening lap to the closing ceremonies, students, staff, and community members walked in solidarity with those affected by cancer, honoring survivors, remembering loved ones, and pushing forward with hope for a cure.

Student Device Safety Risk
Dear parents and guardians,
|
We want to make you aware of a concerning issue related to harmful content being circulated online. Some of this content encourages students to insert objects such as paper clips or pencil lead into Chromebook and laptop USB ports. This behaviour can cause devices to short-circuit, overheat or even catch fire, creating a serious safety risk.
|
Unfortunately, we have already seen damage linked to this trend. Intentional misuse of board-issued devices may result in disciplinary action, and families can be held responsible for repair costs.
|
Please help by speaking with your child about:
|
- the dangers of tampering with technology and endangering others
- the importance of caring for school devices
- reporting unsafe behaviour to a trusted adult
|

Community Service Hours – for 2025 Graduates
It is a requirement of graduation that each student complete 40 hours of community service. There are many opportunities to fulfill this requirement. Potential graduates should submit their hours to the Guidance office as soon as possible, so it can be recorded for graduation. The WCDSB Community Involvement Activity Record can be found here.

It is a requirement of graduation that each student complete two online learning credits. Parents/guardians are able to complete the online waiver form to opt out of these courses. If your student has not completed 2 online courses, please complete the online waiver form.

Saints Rugby Girls make history
Shortly after our last BENN Newlsletter went out, your Saints Girl’s Rugby team played in the D8 Rugby Finals. Taking on Monsignor Doyle, it was a tough back and forth battle with a regulation time ending in a 10-10 draw with Tries scored by Gabi S. and Marianna R., sending the game into sudden death overtime.
|
At the end of the first overtime period, no winner had emerged, so the battle of Cambridge continued with a 2nd overtime. In the final seconds of the game, Camilla R. got the ball and would not be denied touching down a try to secure the first D8 Rugby Championship in St. Benedict History.

The Saints Player of the Game was Derbie T for her incredible effort of defense.

Saints tear up track (and field) at District 8
Congratulations to the St. Benedict track and field club for finishing in 2nd place at the District 8 championships.Thirty-three athletes qualified to represent our school at the CWOSSA championships on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24th!
|
- Avery Andersson and Kaylin Shea tied as the individual champions for Novice Girls.
- Max Leudy was the individual champion in the Junior Boys division.
- Dante Silveira was 4th overall for Novice Boys
- Madeleine Porto was 5th overall for Senior Girls.
|
Our team also broke 8 different District 8 records and set 9 new school records!
|
Congratulations to Kaylin Shea who broke the D8 and school records in the 80 metre hurdles, Austin Gordon who broke D8 and school records in the 100 metres, 800 metres, and in shot put, Madeleine Porto, Jonathan Frempong, and Kayden Rose who broke District 8 and school records in pole vault, Johnny Lalonde-Nguyen, who broke the D8 shot put record, Kseniya Smith, who took down the school high jump record, and finally the Novice Girls 4x100m relay consisting of Olivia Titaro, Kaylin Shea, Kseniya Smith, and Avery Andersson, who smashed the D8 and school relay records.

Interested in volunteering?
Why not volunteer with the library! Cambridge Public Library volunteers play a vital role in our success, and you’ll get the chance to contribute to your community (and get your 40 hours!). After your volunteer onboarding, you’re able to pick up shifts when they fit your schedule: take as many or few shifts as you like. You can experience all our locations, or stick to just one, and participate in many different tasks, including program support, event set up, shelf reading, and more.

Our Youth Advisory Committee is another great way to contribute to the library. Volunteers on the committee help provide feedback on services, programs, and collections for teens across Cambridge. Help shape your library by joining the YAC today!
